A thousand year old method
Soddling is actually a time-honored tradition even used in: Ancient times by the Egyptians and Romans, and is intended to have a calming effect on children. Most newborns are swaddled in the hospital, and the nurses will teach you, but having a YouTube video or 2 handy is helpful for sleep-deprived parents.
Now there are basically 2 types of swaddling blankets.
1) Free Form Blanket – These are long pieces of fabric that often look more similar to pashmina than traditional blankets.
2) Velcro or zip secure – Velcro saddle blankets are basically an adjustable saddlebag that can be a good shortcut for new parents. These areas are a favorite for a night’s sleep when your eyes are too blurry to close properly. Especially in the early days, these are designed as fasteners to hold your cloak in place.
21st century blankets have gotten a makeover, and are form fitting, safer, and easier to use. But trying to navigate through all the products is still a bit of a headache, so here’s a quick guide to the best sleep blanket solution.
